About the Agate

White agate polishes to a surface that looks faintly wet, and at this size the slab gives the banding room to run the long way across the top. The layers alternate between opaque white and a gray that light passes through.

None of that pattern was designed. Each band is a deposit of silica that lined a cavity in rock, and the sequence stopped when the hollow filled. What the slab shows is a cross-section of that history.

How It’s Made

The top keeps the outline the stone came with, so it is longer than it is deep and the edge rises and falls instead of holding a set curve. Metal is electroformed onto that edge, grown in a bath until it is metal with real thickness, permanently bonded to the agate rather than sitting on it as a coating. The legs are electroformed to match. Gold warms the cream in the stone, silver holds it cool, rose gold falls between the two.

Slight variation in natural stone will occur, so the outline and the banding of a top are specific to that slab.

Assembly

The legs are removable and the table is easily assembled on delivery. Top and legs are packed apart from each other; the legs fix to the underside of the slab and come off again for a move.

A Gift For

A 10" by 15" top holds a lamp and a book, or two glasses, which is the job most people want a side table to do. That makes it a straightforward housewarming, wedding or anniversary gift.

Care

Dust with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Blot liquid up immediately with a paper towel and wipe the stone dry to avoid staining, and keep chemical cleaners away from it.
