Small Blue Agate Side Table, 11" x 7" Organic Edge
About the Agate
Blue agate carries its color in bands, laid down one at a time inside a cavity in rock until the hollow filled. The blues run from deep slate at the outside to a soft gray blue further in, paling toward white where the last silica settled.
The bands follow the cavity wall, so they curve rather than run straight, and the line between two of them is sharp. Held against light the thin stone turns luminous.
How It’s Made
The top is one piece of blue agate with the edge left as the stone broke, so the outline is irregular the whole way around. Metal is electroformed onto that edge, grown in a bath until it is metal of real thickness bonded to the stone rather than a coating laid on the surface. The legs are electroformed to match. Silver keeps the blue cold and graphic, gold pushes it warmer, rose gold softens the contrast.

A Gift For
A blue agate side table works as a housewarming or new-home gift, and as a wedding present for a couple furnishing a first place together. It also serves as a client gift.
Care
Dust with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Soak up liquid straight away with a paper towel and wipe the surface dry to avoid staining; keep chemical cleaners off the stone.
