About the Agate

Gray agate is the quietest of the banded agates. Its layers move through charcoal, dove and smoke, with white lines drawn between them, and the whole surface stays close to neutral instead of pulling toward a color.

The bands were deposited in sequence inside a rock cavity, so they repeat the shape of the hollow. Thin areas pass light and turn a warm pale gray; thicker areas stay dense.

How It’s Made

One slab of gray agate becomes the top, cut as a single piece and left with the edge the stone already had, so no two outlines repeat. The raw edge is then electroformed: metal is grown onto the stone in a bath until it is metal in its own right, thick and permanently bonded, not a leaf or film pressed on. Legs in the same electroformed metal carry the slab. Silver disappears into gray agate almost completely, while gold and rose gold set a warm line against it.

Slight variation in natural stone will occur; band width and the balance of dark to light shift from slab to slab.

Assembly

The legs are removable and the table is easily assembled on delivery. Top and legs are packed apart, the legs fix to the underside of the slab, and they come off whenever the table needs moving.

Gray agate is the easy choice when you do not know the room: it sits with almost any palette. That makes it a safe housewarming or new-home gift, and a workable retirement or client present.

Care

Dust with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth, and if a liquid is spilled soak it up at once with a paper towel and wipe dry to avoid staining. Chemical cleaners should not be used.
