Hand Tufted Psychedelic Floral Round Wool Rug | Multicolour on Black | Loquax by Rugfine
Loquax — Psychedelic Floral Round Wool Rug in Multicolour on Black
Loquax takes three oversized blooms and draws each one entirely in contour lines. Rings of yellow, red, teal, green, pink and white ripple outward from the centre of every flower, following the petals as they open. Green leaves with violet edges thread between them, and the whole arrangement sits on a deep black ground.
The effect is closer to a psychedelic print than a traditional floral — a hand-tufted round rug for people who want the floor to be the loudest thing in the room.
Colour Story
- Black — the ground, and the reason eight colours can sit together without clashing
- Yellow & White — the bloom at the left, ringed in bright gold
- Red & Pink — the lower flower, opening in coral and crimson ripples
- Teal Blue & Green — the upper right bloom, cooler and deeper
- Violet Purple — the edges of every leaf
Hand Tufted in Bhadohi, India
Every Loquax rug is handcrafted in our own workshop in Bhadohi, in the heart of India's carpet belt. Artisans hand-tuft 100% New Zealand wool into a cotton canvas backing using a hand-held tufting gun, then carve every contour by hand.
The line work is the whole design, so there is nowhere to hide. Each ripple has to hold a consistent width as it curves around the bloom, and dozens of them run in parallel inside a single flower — if one wanders, the flower stops looking like it is opening. That is why a design like this is tufted rather than printed.
New Zealand wool is used for a reason — it is naturally springy, stain-resistant, flame-resistant and holds dye brilliantly, which is what allows this many saturated colours to sit against black at full strength.

Available Sizes
Seven round diameters: 3 Feet, 4 Feet, 5 Feet, 6 Feet, 8 Feet, 10 Feet and 12 Feet.
- 3–4 ft — entryways, bedsides, reading nooks, under a small side table
- 5–6 ft — coffee table anchor, nursery, home office chair zone
- 8 ft — the most popular living room size; front legs of the sofa sit on the rug
- 10–12 ft — large open-plan living rooms and round dining tables, with chairs staying on the rug when pulled out
The three blooms fill the circle evenly, so nothing important disappears under furniture at any size.
Styling Notes
Loquax is a maximalist piece, so everything around it should be plain. Solid upholstery in cream, black, olive or charcoal; warm wood and brass; no competing patterns anywhere near it. It is exceptional in a dark-walled room, where the black ground ties the floor to the walls and the blooms appear to float. Ideal for eclectic, pop-art and maximalist interiors, and a striking choice for a dining room or a hallway.
Care Instructions
- Dry clean only — do not machine wash, soak or steam clean
- Vacuum regularly without a beater bar; use suction only on cut pile
- Vacuum gently over the carved contours so the ripple detail keeps its definition
- Blot spills immediately with a clean dry cloth — never rub
- Easy to clean: the dense wool pile releases dust and dirt with routine vacuuming
- Shedding is normal on a new wool rug for the first few weeks and settles with vacuuming
- Trim any sprouting tufts with scissors — never pull them
- Rotate every 6 months for even wear and consistent light exposure
- Use an anti-slip rug pad underneath to stop movement and extend the life of the pile
- Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to prevent fading on the reds and yellows
- Air the rug outdoors in shade occasionally to refresh the wool
