Hand Tufted Abstract Leaf Round Wool Rug | Teal, Rust & Sand | Mirre by Rugfine
Mirre — Abstract Leaf Round Wool Rug in Teal, Rust & Sand
Mirre magnifies a single leaf until it fills two thirds of the circle. Its veins radiate from a point set high and off to one side, splitting into smaller and smaller branches as they reach the edge, and the whole form is built from torn, overlapping fragments of black, slate grey, teal and rust rather than flat colour.
The rest is plain sand. That imbalance is the design — all the weight sits on one side, and the open ground stops the leaf from becoming oppressive. It also means this hand-tufted round rug reads completely differently from opposite ends of a room.
Colour Story
- Sand & Beige — the open ground filling the lower left of the circle
- Black — the veins and the deepest fragments of the leaf
- Slate Grey — the body of the leaf, cool and muted
- Teal & Aqua — the coolest highlights, catching through the middle
- Rust Copper — warm torn edges scattered across the form
- Cream — pale flecks that lift the darker fragments
Hand Tufted in Bhadohi, India
Every Mirre rug is handcrafted in our own workshop in Bhadohi, in the heart of India's carpet belt. Artisans hand-tuft 100% New Zealand wool into a cotton canvas backing using a hand-held tufting gun.
Because the leaf is made of fragments rather than solid shapes, the colours have to shift in small steps across it — slate into teal, teal into black, rust picking out the torn edges. That gradation is built by hand, colour by colour, and it is what gives the leaf depth instead of flatness. A printed version of this design would lose exactly that quality.
New Zealand wool is used for a reason — it is naturally springy, stain-resistant, flame-resistant and holds dye brilliantly, which matters in a design built from this many closely related tones.

Available Sizes
Seven round diameters: 3 Feet, 4 Feet, 5 Feet, 6 Feet, 8 Feet, 10 Feet and 12 Feet.
- 3–4 ft — entryways, bedsides, reading nooks, under a small side table
- 5–6 ft — coffee table anchor, nursery, home office chair zone
- 8 ft — the most popular living room size; front legs of the sofa sit on the rug
- 10–12 ft — large open-plan living rooms and round dining tables, with chairs staying on the rug when pulled out
The composition is asymmetric, so turn the rug with the leaf facing into the room and let the plain sand sit under the furniture.
Styling Notes
Mirre is a quiet statement piece. The sand ground keeps it easy to place, while the teal and rust give you two accent colours that are unusual enough to feel considered. It works with oak and walnut flooring, linen and bouclé seating in oatmeal or grey, aged brass and ceramic. Ideal for contemporary, organic modern and nature-led interiors, and particularly good in a bedroom or a reading corner where you see it up close.
Care Instructions
- Dry clean only — do not machine wash, soak or steam clean
- Vacuum regularly without a beater bar; use suction only on cut pile
- Blot spills immediately with a clean dry cloth — never rub; act fast on the sand ground
- Easy to clean: the dense wool pile releases dust and dirt with routine vacuuming
- Shedding is normal on a new wool rug for the first few weeks and settles with vacuuming
- Trim any sprouting tufts with scissors — never pull them
- Rotate every 6 months for even wear and consistent light exposure
- Use an anti-slip rug pad underneath to stop movement and extend the life of the pile
- Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to prevent fading on the teal and rust
- Air the rug outdoors in shade occasionally to refresh the wool
