The Plaque

A plain shield with a large initial and three diagonal bars beside it, and a small two-letter monogram in a circle. Three lines beneath: the name, the motto and the year.

Craftsmanship

Electroformed metal over a sculpted form, finished in antique brass. The lettering and the design stand off a dark textured ground at more than one height, so the piece reads as modeled rather than stamped. The metal is bonded to the surface rather than painted or plated, so there is nothing on it to chip, flake or peel.

Sealed under a UV-protective finish, so it holds its color on an interior wall, a covered porch or in a sheltered corner of the garden.

Personalization

The initial, the family name, the motto and the established line are yours, as C, CARTER, BUILT TO LAST and EST. 2001 are in the pictures. Only the name is required. Leave the initial empty and we use the first letter of the name. One or two letters of your choice go in the small circle beside the bars. To have it in your own design, draw it on paper and upload a photo or scan with your order; leave that empty and we make the design shown, with your words. By sending us artwork you confirm it is yours to use. A design preview comes back by email, and once you approve it the piece leaves the workshop in five to seven business days.

Mounting

Three ways, chosen at checkout.

• Keyhole slots: two screws in the wall, and it lifts off whenever you want to move it.
• Peel-and-stick tape: sealed strips already on the back. Needs a smooth, clean, dry surface.
• Floating stud mount: threaded studs stand it clear of the wall, so a shadow falls underneath.
