About the Petrified Wood

This was a tree. It fell into silt or volcanic ash, silica-bearing water soaked through the trunk, and over millions of years mineral replaced every cell wall while holding its shape. What remains is stone that kept the anatomy of wood: growth rings, the run of the grain, knots, and the scar where a branch left.

In the black variety the silica set dark, so the rings read as charcoal lines with gray, tan or amber between them. A slab cut across the trunk shows the rings as a bullseye; cut along it, the grain runs the length of the top. Polished, it is as hard and glassy as any agate.

How It’s Made

A round is cut from the petrified trunk and ground to a flat one-inch top, the face polished until the rings come up sharp. Metal is electroformed onto the edge until it has real thickness and a permanent bond with the stone, and the legs are electroformed to match. Gold sits well against the amber in the grain, rose gold warmer again, and silver holds the table to charcoal and gray.

Slight variation in natural stone will occur; the ring pattern depends on where in the trunk the slab was cut. Other sizes and shapes can be made to order on request.

Assembly

Legs are removable and the table is easily assembled on delivery: they screw onto the underside of the stone top, which travels flat and separate.
