About the Amethyst

Rounded and polished, amethyst reads as one deep color instead of a set of faces. The purple lies in zones inside the stone, and turning a dome moves those zones under the surface, so the same piece looks lilac from one angle and close to grape from another.

Polishing closes the surface, so light travels into the stone and comes back out rather than scattering off crystal edges. A raw amethyst point is bright and broken up at the tip; a polished dome is even, with veiling and milky quartz showing as soft clouds under the gloss. Cut from different pieces of rough, the batch runs pale to dark.

How It’s Made

The stone is ground to a dome and polished across the whole face, then set into a fitting that grips it at the base. The metal parts are electroformed, grown onto the form until they have real thickness and are permanently bonded, never a leaf or coating that can rub off. A brass bolt threads into the back so the dome stands clear of the door.

Each dome comes from its own piece of amethyst, so no two are exactly alike in size within that range or in depth of color.

Fit and Installation

Fits cabinet doors, drawers and wardrobe fronts through one drilled hole, and no additional hardware is required. The 1.25" projection leaves room for a hand on a deep drawer. Tighten with care by hand rather than forcing the bolt, which is what cracks a polished stone.

Care

Dust with a soft dry cloth only. Household cleaners will dull polished amethyst over time.
